So who is “I am”

by Ronan

untitled.bmpWe are told about our relationship with God being personal and yet mankind is said to have a communal relationship with Him. We are told of the face of God as father, protecter etc., yet we each see God differently. Can these views be reconciled with one another or are they contradictory?

We each have a different view of who God is for us. Yet is this sense of God for each of us not too much like an imaginary friend. We can’t just say God is (insert ideal) or that God would aprove of whatever it is you do. Something real is a certain way that has to be accepted.

So then how can we have a different idea of who God is for us than the person next door? The answer is simple really… but you’ll have to humour me for a minute I’m afraid.

christ-at-thirty-three-heinrich-hofmann.jpgJerry Brown is a family man. He loves to play with the kids and read stories by the fire. But Jerry is an arrogant boss who fires at will. He’s a real business man and to improve his families quality of life he doesn’t mind who he steps on on the way to the top.

Jerry is husband, a father, a son, a grandson. He’s a boss, an employee, a co-worker, a friend and a fow. To each of these people he’s someone else. His children love their caring father who always makes time for them…..so does his wife and parents but his work ethic disturbs them somewhat. His parents will always see their little boy…..his wife will always see her knight in shinning armour and his children will always see there all-knowing protector.

Jerry is a reality. The type of person he is is a reality but different people see different faces to the one person….depending on their relationship with him. This is the same with God.

dove.gifIn the Christian context people can identify more with either the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit.

Are you someone who needs to feel protected (Father), loved (Son) or are you more of a mystic (Holy Spirit)? There are three images of God given by the one faith in one God…but there are many more besides. (The Judge, the friend, the santa claus etc.)

maybe god should be seen as conciousness that we contribute to with our worldly experiences. the point of it all is intelligence based on our own unique
worldly experience and how we respond maybe that is then absorbed into the collective conciousness or godhead. the end game is not yet known but we are joint authors and indeed co creators to an unfolding testament on what might not be an inconclusive journey for our descendents. maybe ‘dontknowism’ is a reality and everything else is … as you believe.
