Is this a cool world or what? - Karla De Vito
An opinion. It is one of the greatest gifts we are given, especially when we live in a society that encourages it on a wide scale when debating some small and trivial matters.
The truth is we have always had it, but there have been plenty of times when we have chosen not to use it. Do you we use it for right or wrong? Do we use it to influence those we choose to be around or do we choose it to educate?
If I didn’t have an opinion I would not be writing this blog, and maybe some who have read these blogs wish I did not have such a strong one on a great many topics!
Things can change if you want them to, but like everything that is worth having it takes a great deal of effort. When protest marches took place in the 60’s and 70’s there was more of a movement then there is today. You can throw in artistic nature, rebelling for change, people who did not want to be like their parents as likely reasons.
Today I do not think we do that and some would say we have even more of a platform to express ourselves. Take one look at Youtube and you will find ready made celebrities; from the man crying about the media harassment of Britney Spears to the guys who can complain about George Bush being an idiot. There is always an opportunity to get your voice heard.
So now we have forum’s, blogs and Youtube comments over latest reality show, what a celebrity is up to, which WAG and Footballer was seen out for a night etc I wonder what the likes of John Lennon and Martin Luther King would have done with something like Youtube or Myspace?
Opinion has caused more trouble on this little earth than plagues or earthquakes

Maybe we should use it more and see what we can do to help bring injustice to its knees. Will we? Probably not. Too many of the active groups that we trusted to help us fight the good fight are losing popularity fast.
So while we’re watching Big Brother or Celebrity Love Island or Pete Doherty staving off another potential jail sentence because he’s “really just misunderstood” , there will be more morals and freedom quietly compromised while our outrage will be someone with a name like “Ziggy“.

Ann Says:
This is an interesting subject. There are differing views on the sharing of one’s opinion, for instance how often have we heard one person rebuffing another just beacause their opinion wasn’t asked for?
On the other hand how many of us have been asked to give an opinion on something only to see that it has counted for nothing.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with having strong opinions and many of them.
Problems only tend to start when the means by which the opinions are expressed are deemed rash, ruthless, inciteful, hurtful or offensive.
So I would say, by all means let your opinion be known, after all it may just make a difference, but remember to temper your words with love.
Respect the sensibilities of others, it costs nothing but makes the world a more pleasant place for us all.
