On The Lighter Side

by Mike

Welcome to the ‘On the Lighter Side’ taking you through the weekend with more mellow, chilled out stories to take you away from the madness that I normally post here!

Firstly we start in South Africa where a man was arrested on Thursday for being illegally in possession of a python which he said he wanted to use to heal a sick person.

According to Superintendent Nondusimo Jafta, “The 39-year-old man was arrested in Umthatha for being in possession of the python without having a permit. He said that he wanted to use it to heal somebody who was ill,”

The 11 foot long snake will now be sent to an East London Zoo where it would be taken care of by conservation officials.

Next we move onto Thailand and some parliamentary candidates are said to be buying the votes of the old by passing out free Viagra.

Residents in Prathumthani are said to be receiving doses of the anti-impotence drug in exchange for promised votes. The villagers told me they have been given one or two pills of Viagra by candidates. Then they come to me to ask for more pills, or sometimes coffee, in exchange for voting for my brother, who is also running for a seat.

Sayan Nopkham, a local government off

Thailand has had a long history of controversy in relation to vote buying, but the government is trying to make that more difficult a task then ever before. Anyone found guilty of buying votes could face up to 10 years in prison while voters who accept money face up to five years in jail.

And finally, PC gets to chalk up another claim of things going too far and none more so then this story.

A man has been convicted of racially aggravated harassment after calling a Welsh woman English.

Michael Forsythe was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months, after being found guilty of racially aggravated disorderly behaviour.

Forsyth apparently called Lorna Steele an “English b***h” during an argument after he collided with her parked vehicle in the Welsh market town of Newport in February of this year.

I find it unbelievable that I’ve been prosecuted for this, he said. I’ve travelled all over Europe as a lorry driver and never had any problems with anybody and now they’re officially calling me a racist…It’s political correctness gone mad
