Every form of addiction is bad, no matter whether the narcotic be alcohol or morphine or idealism. - Carl Gustav Jung

Recreational drugs; two words put together that make something that can rip your body and mind apart sound like it’s a children’s activity.

I’m not one to advocate drugs, never have been and I doubt I ever will be. However I can understand why people use them. We are all addicted to some kind of drug, something that we use to get away from the harsh realities of the world. There is always the chance that what we fall in love with could eventually destroy, but we take the risk.

The figures are there for the harmful effects of drink, drugs and cigarettes; hell the figures are there for the harmful effects of drinking a bottle of bleach but it’s a pretty good bet that someone has tried to do it.

Are we here for a long time or just a good time?  Katy French’s death has raised that question once again. The rumours can fly and they will for the next while as to what exactly it was that killed her and if she pushed herself too far. I think it’s despicable that so called “friends” like Gavin Lambe-Murphy have moved quickly to get their story in the papers, if it’s not for money then it’s for the fame. That big bright spotlight which houses its own addictiveness, taking a grip on the person and not wanting to let go until you’re washed up and a nobody once again.

Coke is no longer an elitist drug. It is not specific to a certain social group or class. It’s rampant now. It’s around me with people on the scene and it is one of the main reasons I don’t go out very often. I don’t want to have the reputation of being associated with it.

The favourite new party game is now drugs. It probably existed a long time before this in Ireland but in times gone by the economy was not what it has been over the past 7-8 years. Now we all apparently have money and any Joe Soap can be famous, but as always with people who have money we cannot hold onto it and need something fun to spend it on. Step up Class A Drugs, coming to a mirror and straw near you.

I just look upon all of this and think that it is just sad.
