The Lighter Side

To the lighter side we go, and some stories to get away from the seriousness of the week.

Firstly to America, where it seems no one safe from having their phone cut off for non payment of bills, not even the FBI.

The US Justice Department’s inspector general faulted the FBI for poor handling of money used in undercover investigations, which it said made the agency vulnerable to theft and mishandled invoices.

Under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act a wiretap case was suspended due to a bill not being paid to a telecommunications company.

A statement from the Justice Department’s audit said, “Late payments have resulted in telecommunications carriers actually disconnecting phone lines established to deliver surveillance results to the FBI, resulting in lost evidence”

Moving on to the Czech Republic and a game of Pool turned out to be a very painful experience for two friends.

The two players, in the western Czech city of Karlovy Vary, thought it was funny when both of their hands became trapped inside the table, while trying to retrieve a ball. However their laughter soon turned to shock as both found they could not get their hands out from the table pockets.

Unsuccessful attempts by staff to help them with their plight led to the fire brigade being called and they subsequently cut the table apart to free the men. A spokesperson for the Fire department said, “We have no clue at all how they could become stuck in there. In the end we had no other option but to dismantle the entire table.”

And finally not everyone knows who Tony Blair is, apparently.

The former British Prime Minister and now Middle East envoy, told a conference organised by France’s ruling UMP party in Paris he got his first mobile phone six months ago.

According to Blair he sent a text message to a friend but, “given my lack of technological knowledge I didn’t realise the telephone hadn’t identified me as the sender. I got an SMS back saying: ‘But sorry, who are you?’”,
