War, hatred, and violence all spring from one infernal idea: that one person, race, creed, or culture is better than another - Laurence Overmire
Does being cruel to be kind work? I always wonder that if you back people into a corner will they eventually lower their defences and be prepared to deal with you or is there more of a chance that they will lash out harder in fear then at any other stage.
860,000 people in the Gaza Strip face the prospect of having their food supply cut off because the UN are unable to get their supplies to them because of a blockade by the Israelis.
Gaza’s borders were closed last Thursday because of a rocket attack said to have been perpetrated by militants based in the region. Since then fuel, nylon and food supplies have been hit and hit hard and ,according the BBC, the EU states that Israel is “collectively punishing” the territory run by the Hamas.
I have made clear that I am against this collective punishment of the people of Gaza
Benita Ferrero-Waldner, EU External Relations Commissioner
As far as I’m concerned, all the residents of Gaza can walk and have no fuel for their cars, because they have a murderous terrorist regime that doesn’t allow people in the south of Israel to live in peace.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert
It has always been a volatile situation there and now it looks set to become even worse. Millions have already suffered because of it and there does not appear to be an end in sight.
The intentions of the various West Governments, mainly the USA, who would like to be the ones known for bringing peace in the region, is noble but war is never as simple as just saying “Ok, let’s finish it”. I wish it was.
There will always be hard liners who cannot say a day where they will want to end the fighting and violence. When dying for the cause is celebrated and in some cases expected it can be very hard to change the mentality, very difficult to make people believe that there is another way.
On both sides of a war, how many mothers must face the death of their sons because a politician will not face the death of one misguided opinion?

Ann Says:
The day on which this post first appeared was reported by the media to be the most depressing day of the year.
And yet by comparison each and every day in the Gaza Strip right now can only be depressing and distressing amid the escalating tension.
It’s sad enough to watch the news and hear of the heartache, but I can’t imagine what life must be like for these poor innocents, so many of them children.
How is it that in all these situations, in all the war-torn regions, it is the innocent who seem to suffer the most?
