The Lighter Side
To the lighter side we go again to try and take the seriousness out of the week.
First we go to Poland, where a man is having a hard time proving that he is still alive.
Piotr Kucy from the city of Polkowice in southwest Poland was wrongly identified by authorities last August as a drowned man, only to show up a few days after his own funeral.
The 38 year old has pointed out to government officials that he is very much alive yet he is deemed to be dead in the official records and thus cannot receive a weekly wage or pay social insurance.
“We are nearly through January, and my documents still say I’m dead,” Kucy told the local newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza, adding: “It’s a bit of a joke.”
The case continues.
Next we go to Germany, where a thief was caught by Police after leaving a slice of salami at the scene of a crime.
The 37 year old Romanian man Romanian man is accused of breaking into a workshop office in the western city of Darmstadt, stealing cash and two locks and causing damage totalling € 3,400, but the authorities were able to take DNA from the slice of meat.
He is said to be wanted in connection to 19 other burglaries and was taken into custody last month.
Finally we go to China, where a university student came up with a unique way of getting home.
The Wuhan native wanted to get back to his home city, for the Lunar New Year holiday, but faced an arduous 200km trek through snow covered ground and closed roads.
According to the Changjiang Daily “he had a fantastic idea. He hired or borrowed some ski poles, skis and the rest of the equipment, bought some snow gear, packed some water and snacks and got on the highway,”
Unfortunately he was spotted by Police and brought to a local bus station to complete his journey by normal means. However with thousands delayed due to transport problems it is not known if he made it back home.
