And we’ll do it our way,It’s our time to play. We know what to say if they stand in our way, Don’t stand in our way - In the Land of the Pig The Butcher is King
If Mary Hanafin gave you a warning, would you be scared?
The Minister of Education has warned teachers that if they go through with their predicted strike that they may have to face the consequences.
I respect the people I work for, generally they practice what they preach and are able to provide experience, grounding and belief that the role I have can benefit others.
In the education system, Ms Hanafin and the Government are not giving teachers that belief. Yes it is a case that there are good teachers and bad teachers and even some great teachers who have simply stopped caring because they feel that they are banging their heads off a brick wall; however a leader is always needed.
Instead of grabbing the situation by the scruff of the neck, Ms Hanafin seems to be only capable of whispering when shouting is required.
“People in second-level schools are trying to transfer to other sectors because they are so disillusioned by the lack of help dealing with behaviour problems in class,” said National Union of Teachers Dublin City area representative John Farrell.
Now maybe it’s the flavour of the month to threaten strike action, but at the same time there is still much to do if attitudes towards education from both the student’s and the teacher’s view are to change.
If we have a government that is more concerned with living in their own paradise, then actually solving problems, where is the room for reform and general common sense?
