The Lighter Side

To the Lighter Side we go with more stories to take the stress out of your week.

Firstly we go to Tokyo, where a Major League Baseball star has been given some marital advice from Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura.

Hideki Matsui, who plays for the New York Yankees and a hero for baseball fans across Japan, is to marry a 25-year-old former office worker.

In a letter to the media Machimura said that “You often hear this in wedding speeches, but I would advise him to keep both eyes open before the marriage and afterwards keep one shut.

“I think that’s very good advice,” he added. “I always keep one eye closed, although my wife may keep both of hers shut.”

Moving on to Poland and a 79 year old man has been arrested for using a catapult to damage more than a dozen cars parked in front of his apartment block.

The Kalisz citizen told the authorities that he had been sick of the noise and pollution caused by the comings and goings of the cars.

His one-man campaign was brought to a halt after he was caught red-handed shooting at an Audi 80 and a Fiat Punto, thanks to a security camera installed by fellow residents.

And finally to Germany with a story for those of us who have a fear of rodents.

A 23 year old man fled his home half naked for cold, snow-swept streets to escape a mouse in his living room.

“He said there was nothing he was more afraid of,” police in Goettingen said in a statement.

After making an emergency call, the man was found wearing only his boxer shorts and slippers at a phone booth near his home.
