More Thoughts…

Thankfully Shannon Matthews was found safe and has subsequently been reunited with her mother.

However the fall out from this seems to have put the whole matter in a negative light with the news that not only has Shannon’s stepfather Craig Meehan been arrested and charged with 11 counts of possessing indecent images of children; but Meehan’s sister and mother have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and suspicion of perverting the course of justice, respectively.

Is this all a very strange effort to be featured in the media spotlight? The one person I have sympathy for in all of this is Shannon Matthews. I’m sure she is a very confused nine year old right about now.

At the moment Brian Cowen looks certain to become the next leader of Fianna Fáil. Having been our Minister for Finance is there a possibility that he will finally steer the party, and possibly the country should he be confirmed as Taoiseach on the 7th May, to calmer waters instead of the bumpy but never boring ride that Bertie Ahern had led them to?

As Gordon Brown has shown, an ability to manage one sector very well does not necessarily mean that the whole industry can be run just as smoothly.

As a side note, is Beverly Flynn a great opportunist? Having been embarrassed and cast out of the spotlight after the RTE libel case, is a coincidence that she has returned to Fianna Fáil and is already speaking about being given a Ministerial role? Backs are being scratched as we speak.

And finally 100 gardaí will take part in the Paris Marathon this Sunday in support of aid agency GOAL, where it is expected they will raise €100,000 for the cause.

However much I criticise our law enforcement agency in this country, I admire anyone who wishes to go out of their way to make a positive contribution, especially to charity.
