Going to extremes

by Mike

Tony Blair has spoken recently about religion and how it shouldn’t be dominated by extremists.

Unfortunately many deaths have resulted in the name of religion over many centuries and unfortunately it is something that can continue. “Doing God’s work”  can be very vague as to its exact meaning and while one culture may tell you to turn the other cheek and forgive the sins of man, another may say that the way to truly show love for God is to take other lives.

It would not be my choice but then again, if everyone thought and believed exactly the same things, discoveries would never be made and we would never develop.

Faith is a powerful thing; it can bring you out of the worst possible places and situations and make you feel like there is a reason to go on in live. However faith can also make you believe that sacrificing yourself is the right way and will benefit generations to come. A suicide bomber in Sri Lanka is the most recent person to test that theory and because of this 12 people have died.

There can never be one true global religion because human beings are stubborn enough to have differing opinions, what there can be and what will take a very long time to achieve is an understanding and an appreciation for life.
