For Charity
In my infinite madness, or is that wisdom?…no wait it is definitely madness, I have decided to the 5k Fun Run for Temple Street Hospital on May 25th 2008.
I have decided to take part in it for two reasons, one of which being that I do not believe that I do enough for charity and because of that I would like to change it. I don’t believe it’s a selfless good deed because I think you should feel a little bit of pride in yourself when attempting to do things like this.
The second reason for doing this is to prove to myself that time spent getting up 2 hours early in the mornings or staying behind after work to go the gym is worth it and actually has some meaning. It can be easy to toil away and push yourself for the sake of burning a few calories and not really understand why you put yourself through the madness in the first place. Fitness is something you do not believe you need to have, but when you have it you wonder why you deprived yourself of it for so long. A bit like love, maybe?
Anyway I digress, I’ve said before that I think it is important to try and help others who are not in a position to help themselves and in this case the situations that the children find themselves in can be no fault of their own.
So I look forward to doing it, when it comes to working out I’m not someone who would do amongst a gang of people, if nothing else I prefer it when there’s a reasonably empty gym as I am the only one that I need to compete with. In the 5k Fun Run, it will be exactly the same.
So if you see some mad sweaty fool listening to blaring music, looking around longingly for the finish line in the Phoenix Park, you will know it’s me! At least this time it will be for a good cause.

Between the good weather we’ve been having and the stretch in the evenings, I’ve certainly noticed a more than usual number of runners and walkers on our streets. So it’s good to hear of someone doing the same thing but raising money at the same time. Good luck!
