The Lighter Side
To the Lighter Side we go once again with stories to try and take the seriousness out of the week.
Firstly we go to the world of tennis, where a losing streak has finally been broken.
British Player Robert Dee, ranked world number 1,466, beat American teenager Arzhang Derkshani in a tennis tournament in Barcelona 6-4, 6-3 last week to record his first victory in 55 matches.
The win means that the 21-year –old has not eclipsed the record for the longest losing streak of 54 matches on the trot; which he holds with Guatemalan Diego Beltranena.
However the joy of victory was short lived as Dee lost his next match!
Moving on to Cricket and an English cricket club has banned its players from hitting sixes to avoid complaints from the neighbours.
Amazingly officials at the Harrowgate cricket club have told the players that they will automatically be given out if they loft the ball towards the surrounding houses and over the boundary.
Harrogate Borough Council, who own the ground has decided that the rule should be imposed on the club’s second pitch, which is used by the club’s third, fourth and junior teams.
The ruling has come as a result of some of the neighbours complaining about the number of cricket balls that come into their gardens. Most give the balls back, however some keep them.
