Shocking and Evil
“Open-mouthed with awe” was how one of the Austrian Policemen described Elisabeth Fritzl’s children’s reaction to the outside world.
Open-mouthed would be my reaction to he whole sad situation. You wonder about evil and how it breeds and if it exists; well instances like this will only enhance the belief that it does exist.
How would you attempt to punish someone in situations such as these; would therapy be enough? What kind of punishment would be enough?
The people of Austria now have the world staring at them, wondering how this could have been kept quiet for so long and how it could have happened in the first place? It seems the Austrian public are keen not to be tarnished with this horrific brush.
It obviously can never be justified and I hope will never be attempted to because, even with the minimum mental capacity for decision making, a person would surely have to realise that this is wrong.
This will affect many and the Fritzl family may never fully recover from it. I hope that the punishment that will be handed down to Mr Fritzl will be sufficient and will reflect what exactly he has done.
