Time to tighten

by Mike

67% of us are “more conscious of personal finances” according to a survey by Mintel Ireland.

After nearly ten years of being in a position of wealth, or at least according to the money men and government, it now appears that free spending may be replaced by spendthrift, but is it really a bad thing?

A night out in the centre of Dublin can see people easily spending over €100, which is definitely not something that should be sneezed at. Prices in general are creeping up and if people are finding that they have to tighten their belts a little, it will generally stand them in good stead.

The hope will be that the government and its ministers will also try and tighten their belts by not accepting the mammoth pay increase suggestions, while at the same time trying to convince the rest of the country that we should not be expecting an increase in the minimum wage.

If we can no longer afford the things that we need, we can’t exactly justify the luxury item that we want. The world at the moment seems to be in mourning for the loss of life and lifestyles between natural disasters and credit crunches.

Somewhere it seems someone is affected by the current situation, if our spending has to change for a little while, maybe we will all be able to experience a reality check.

Hits the nail on the head, no doubt about it. Well said, Mike.
