Senator Ted Kennedy
I read with some sadness at the recent hospitalisation of the US Senator Ted Kennedy this week and that he had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour.
A diagnosis like that can hit close friends and family harder, on some occasions, then it can the person that is suffering with the problem.
Like most people, his life has had its fair share of up’s and down’s and I’ve always wondered has guilt played a big part in his actions, privately.
Senator Kennedy, if you believe all reports, is said to have had problems with alcohol, but when it is considered that he has seen two of his brothers shot and killed along with what is referred to as the “Chappaquiddick incident”, you start to appreciate how difficult it must have been to live with that kind of grief.
I think the Senator has done a lot of good for politics in a country where it is hard to cut through the miles and miles of red tape that exists and make a difference. It will never be easy to please everyone, as Irish politicians are finding more and more now.
Thoughts and prayers should go out to the Senator and his family. Hopefully it is a situation that can be turned around and that he can make a full recovery and that he can continue to be “one of the most influential and enduring icons of his party”, to quote Wikipedia.
