The Lighter Side

To the lighter side we go for the first time in a long time, with some stories to take people’s minds off serious issues this week…such as voting!

Firstly we go to England, Thirsk specifically where a pig has been given boots to wear because she does not like mud.

Cinders the Piglet never followed the rest of her siblings when being let into the fields of the North Yorkshire farm and appeared to suffer from mysophobia, or a fear of mud.

The piglet’s owners, Debbie and Andrew Keeble, where originally baffled by this decision until their 12-year-old daughter Ellie suggested Cinders wear boots.

They asked a designer friend to come up with a bespoke pair of green piggy boots. Cinders has now been recruited to act as a mascot in the campaign to highlight the plight of British pig farmers.

Moving on to India and a rich 80-year-old woman has treated 100,000 people to a feast in the hope it would please the gods and open the doors of heaven for her.

Phuljharia Kunwar’s gesture meant that people from the towns and villages of the eastern state of Bihar were fed lunch for two consecutive days and a total of $37,500 was spent on the meals.

“She told us she could now begin her final journey and her soul could rest in peace in heaven,” Ajay Kumar Bulganin, a local lawmaker who attended the feast said.

“She was worried that no one would care about throwing a feast after her death.”
