Why are we “miserable”?
Politicians are an easy target, but then again when you find yourself swept away from land, it can be hard to see and appreciate what is going on with others and what the general consensus is.
Which is why I viewed, with amusement and great interest at the comments of the MP, for Glasgow South, Tom Harris. Mr Harris labeled voters as being “so bloody miserable”.
He was referring to the complaints in the wake of the credit crunch that seems to be worldwide, and goes on to state that people were afflicted by “crippling” pessimism. It must have been very difficult for Mr Harris to make this suggestion, following recommendations being made for MP pay rises.
Prices are going up, some people are being reduced to using cooking oil as petrol for their cars, crime is constantly up and voters are wrong for being agrieved with this?
He has subsequently apologised on BBC Radio stating that he was comparing this generation with previous ones, who were not so healthy and wealthy.
There may be some money to spend, but not for much longer if crunch continues, without any room to breathe.
You criticise your voters and it should not come as a surprise if those voters turn on you. I say it should, but with this generation of politicians it probably will not.
They wish to be treated like Gods and a lot of them like to forget about responsibility. If you or I made a mistake that affected a lot of people, we know we would have to accept responsibility for our actions…it would be nice if the same could be said in every profession.
