Reactions - good, the bad and the indifferent

by Mike

Two interesting stories I have seen in the last week, that can just make you think about our reactions to situations that we find ourselves in.

The first being the successful by Barry George to overturn his conviction of the murder of the BBC TV presenter Jill Dando. After 8 years in prison there are many questions to be answered from both George and the authorities.

Did the Police simply go for a quick conviction because there was an intense pressure from the media? Maybe and Barry George’s odd demeanour and “stalking” habits will have possibly made their decision easy for them.

I hope that George can rebuild his life, though his admission that he didn’t murder Jill Dando because he was “stalking someone else at the time” does not exactly show a man who has fought any demons that he has. The police have an impossible task to find the real killer after closing the case 8 years ago.

The second concerns the story of seven year old Reigh Boss, whose father will face charges of kidnapping after taking his daughter from her London home to Baltimore. Thankfully she is unharmed and has been reunited with her mother.

It can be difficult when separation, divorce or what have you, involves children as the custody battles can be very ugly with no give and not much thought to the welfare of the child.

Maybe Reigh’s father has sealed his own fate in relation to the access he will be given to her in the future, which is sad. It seems like he does love and care about her, but maybe not in the right way.
