‘Is the Church relavent anymore?’

by Ronan

I often hear the question ‘Is the Church really relavent anymore?’. This is an attempted response.

Western Europe, north America and Australia are experiencing increasingly rigorous secularisation but also depression and suicide rates breaking all previous records while respect for everything sacred (life, love etc.) is becoming rarer. A sense of confinement is becoming common place as more and more loose hope.

Jesus Christ is “the way, the truth and the life”. In this current secular climate the way to salvation is neither recognised nor appreciated. In Christ all of us may be in one. Peace is recognised as a goal in today’s world and this peace can be found in Christ. Then, the truth…”the truth will set you free”.

Finally, hope. “Spe Salvi” and the western nations will soon come to see that the way from this horrific trend is the hope which can only be brought to humanity through Jesus Christ.

In our world today people make sure never to slow down, never to discern. The truth is that people have never felt so helpless. It is the fear of such a realisation that stops so many from standing back and taking stock. Never before have so many been so desperate for answers and guidance.

With all of this in mind, how could the Church be needed any more. How could it be any more relevant.

Truth is always relevant. Hope, love, peace,…will always be relevant.
