“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” ~ Dale Carnegie

I said goodbye to a lot of my friends yesterday as I found out they were no longer employed at my place of work.

I’ve always been amazed at how relationships with people can be so varied. There are people we could know for years and not be close to and yet there are those who we know for a short amount of time and they can make a massive impact on you. In my case recently it has been the latter.

The credit crunch will no doubt have more companies take the route of “streamlining” and will no doubt cause us to change our outlook and our short term future plans. I know that my friends being told yesterday that they had lost their jobs made me very strange as I continued in my role.

I did feel a little empty and mostly shell shocked because a lot of these people had coached and helped me when I first joined the company last year. To find out that they will not be there anymore  has been difficult to deal with, nothing compared to what they felt I’m sure.

There is the saying that everything happens for a reason and maybe it is true. Maybe the things that come out of the blue are meant to lead you down another path, sometimes we can become too comfortable and complacent, lacking a challenge in our lives.
