That Glow!
I met someone who I don’t know very well, but deeply respect, the other night. He is a committed Christian, and joyfully told me that he was just a few weeks married. On his arm was his wife of six weeks. I’m not sure of his age, but I’d say he’s touching forty, though he looks younger. “It was worth the wait,” he whispered to me.
As he and his wife sat together during the meeting we were both attending, I sensed the glow of love between them – the gentle marvel and quiet joy of a couple brought together by God, who waited for the right moment, the right person and kept themselves in anticipation.
And the chemistry is almost tangible.
I’ve only experienced it a couple of times before, and it is always with people who haven’t lived together before they marry, who wait.
And I believe the chemistry lasts a lifetime because it is planted and nourished by God who is Love.

Ann Says:
Susan, I hope the couple you met have many happy years together.
Reading your thoughts made me think about our young people and the importance of inculcation of gospel-based values, at home and in school.
When it has reached a stage where young girls are being offered vaccination against cervical cancer, and proposals are out there to introduce sex education in primary schools, how many of our young people without a sound education based on gospel values will be strong and single-minded enough to stand up to peer pressure?. How many couples like the ones you describe are we likely to meet in the future?
It’s not that there’s anything wrong with sex – it’s totally right, in the right circumstances.
But its abuse reduces this beautiful gift of God to the level of a cheap fairground thrill.
If the government, the film and advertising agencies keep on going the way they’re going now, the chances of anyone meeting a couple like this in ten or twenty years time will be very slim indeed.
The Catholic Church got it very wrong in the past, but that’s no excuse for being barely audible now.
They should be shouting from the rooftops, again and again because let’s face it we’re up against a formidable foe – the government might talk about family values from time to time but isn’t going to talk about sanctity and respecting our beautiful bodies – that’s for the Church to do.
Getting back to this couple again, I too have had the privilege of meeting people like them – single, religious and married – purity glows!
May God smile on them all.
