“Real loss only occurs when you lose something that you love more than yourself”
171 people have died in bushfires in Southeast Australia, one of the more shocking theories is that some of the fires were started by arsonists.
Small villages have suffered and at least 750 homes have been destroyed with around 850 square miles burned out.
The question I ask is why would someone even consider such an evil act as to start fires. People have died and hopefully no one else will, and I can very much understand the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd’s, reaction when he said “What do you say about anyone like that?” he said. “There’s no words to describe it, other than it’s mass murder.”
There is evil in this world of that there can be no doubt, but I find it so hard to believe that someone could do this. Maybe I shouldn’t, maybe in terms of salvation there should not be.
Then again we are taught that there should be. If they manage to find the suspected arsonists, I am not sure the Australian population will be so forgiving.
My thoughts go out to the families of those who have lost their lives and hopefully they will be able rebuild not just the physical ruins of the villages and towns but of their own spiritual lives as well.
