The Lighter Side
To the Lighter Side we go, with some stories to take the seriousness out of the week.
Firstly we go to Mexico where a dramatic play off final has resulted in the winner of the “Rock, Paper, Scissors” game booking a place for the world finals in Canada.
The country’s first national tournament was won by Eduardo Villar Raposso and all competitors have to adhere to the rules which include, making the play only when the referee blows the whistle and ensuring the hand signal is as representative and as uniform as possible.
The cup was officially sanctioned by the World RPS Society — slogan: “Serving the Needs of Decision Makers since 1918.” and last year’s winner received 10,000 dollars.
All hand gestures in the game are recognised under the Internally Recognised Throwing System (IRTS)
Moving on to Vinkovci in Croatia and the locals have claimed to have made the worlds longest sausage, measuring 1,738 feet.
Organisers said the sausage was the world’s largest and could feed as many as 3,000 people, but adding it was merely “training” for next year when they plan to produce a sausage measuring 1,000 metres.
The ingredients included 400 kilogrammes of pork, 10 kilos of salt, 2.5 kilos of spices and 3.5 kilos of garlic. The previous record was said to have been made in Romania in December 2008 with a sausage length of 392 metres.
And finally to Austria, where a 38 year old woman has been jailed for 500 days for failing to pay parking fines that totaled around €24,000 euro.
The Civil Servant, from Graz, ignored 700 attempts over a two year period and left the authorities with no choice.
However under Austrian law, the woman can only spend 42 days at a time in jail for this offence, so her sentence would have to be split into different stints.
