There cannot be anything natural about this disaster
Losing a loved one, or those close to us is one of the hardest things to go through. For Cesare Gaspari the pain must be excruciating as he tries to salvage an impossible situation in L’Aquila after the earthquake.
Gaspari is the commander at nearby Pescara fire station and while searching through the rubble, he was informed that he daughter ‘s body was pulled from the rubble. The pictures show the emotion and outpouring of grief that should really be best left in private.
For hours upon end, rescuers are digging through the rubble and more then 200 people have been confirmed as being dead. 1,500 people have been injured and over 17,000 have lost their homes in this disaster.
I can never understand why the likes of earthquakes are called natural disasters, because there is nothing natural about lives being lost in this way. There is nothing natural about lives being turned upside in the space of a few minutes.
My thoughts go to the families of those that have lost loved ones and high praise must go to those who have tried to make a difference by helping in any way they can.
