Saturday, January 26th, 2008
In my article ‘Motu Proprio’ an interesting comment on the need for a move of religious instruction from schools (where problems are now clear) towards alternative means: Sunday schools, discussion groups etc. This is worth bringing back up for discussion.

In dying we’re born
Wednesday, September 12th, 2007
The eyes of politicized Catholics everywhere are now squarely pointed at the Australian Church after the retired auxiliary bishop of Sydney (Geoffrey Robinson) released his new book: ‘Confronting Power & Sex in the Catholic Church: reclaiming the spirit of Jesus’.

Quo Vadis?
Sunday, August 19th, 2007
Speaking in Milwaukee on August 17th the Primate of All Ireland, Sean Brady, spoke of the “smaller but more authentic Church” he sees for the Ireland of tomorrow. While expressing his worries about the “shift to superficiality in Irish culture” the Archbishop seemed enthuased after recent trends show a revival in spiritual awareness amongst the Irish. So….we can […]

Where is the Wellspring?
Saturday, August 18th, 2007
I’ve just returned from Taizé (ecumenical community near Lyon (France)) after spending some time in Rome and I can’t help but wonder what direction this Church of ours is heading in….as an institution. Do we have our priorities right?…or is it just jet-lag?

The document, ‘Responses to some questions regarding certain aspects of the doctrine on the Church’ was drawn up by the Congregation for the […]

“We are talking of peace”
Tuesday, August 7th, 2007
In 1979 Mother Teresa of Kolkata was awarded the Noble Peace Prize for her work with the poor and dying in Kolkata, India. In her acceptance speech this holy woman famously refered to abortion as “the greatest destroyer of peace” today. These words shocked the world…pro-lifers and pro-choicers alike. A bit extreme for anyone really. What was […]

Our wellspring of morality
Friday, August 3rd, 2007
Catholics have often been accused of blindly following a supreme authority (Roman Pontiff) and in so doing sacrificing there own views…there own soul. An argument as to a Catholic’s first allegiance, when making a decision, has raged in the Church for years. Some theologians claim the infallible word of the sitting pope must dictate the […]

I once was blind but now can see
Thursday, August 2nd, 2007
If I were to strike up a debate on human trafficking we could only come to one conclusion (I hope!). That it is wrong and that anyone involved has lost any sense of humanity. We would be very quick to condemn these people but do any of us have the right to?
