So who is “I am”
Friday, August 10th, 2007
We are told about our relationship with God being personal and yet mankind is said to have a communal relationship with Him. We are told of the face of God as father, protecter etc., yet we each see God differently. Can these views be reconciled with one another or are they contradictory?

Pain as a path to Love
Thursday, August 9th, 2007
It has often been noted that painful experiences in life can bring you closer to God. This could explain why the faith seems so much stronger in developing countries than in the West. “Pain leads man to thought, thought leads man to wisdom, wisdom brings man happiness with God.” So in our modern world, where [...]

“An honest declaration” - What’s the problem?
Wednesday, August 8th, 2007
There’s been a lot of talk in the media recently about the document released on the Vatican’s website (www.vatican.va) which re-affirmed the Church of Rome as Christ’s one true Church on Earth. The document, ‘Responses to some questions regarding certain aspects of the doctrine on the Church’ was drawn up by the Congregation for the [...]

“We are talking of peace”
Tuesday, August 7th, 2007
In 1979 Mother Teresa of Kolkata was awarded the Noble Peace Prize for her work with the poor and dying in Kolkata, India. In her acceptance speech this holy woman famously refered to abortion as “the greatest destroyer of peace” today. These words shocked the world…pro-lifers and pro-choicers alike. A bit extreme for anyone really. What was [...]

Our wellspring of morality
Friday, August 3rd, 2007
Catholics have often been accused of blindly following a supreme authority (Roman Pontiff) and in so doing sacrificing there own views…there own soul. An argument as to a Catholic’s first allegiance, when making a decision, has raged in the Church for years. Some theologians claim the infallible word of the sitting pope must dictate the [...]

I once was blind but now can see
Thursday, August 2nd, 2007
If I were to strike up a debate on human trafficking we could only come to one conclusion (I hope!). That it is wrong and that anyone involved has lost any sense of humanity. We would be very quick to condemn these people but do any of us have the right to?

Service or Sacrament?
Wednesday, August 1st, 2007
Citizens of our ‘Catholic’ Ireland have never had to go far to celebrate such occasions as birth, marriage or death. It’s said that there’s a church every mile on average on this island of ours. Now, for the first time, this secularised society has begun to wonder where to go instead. The state is now [...]

Sacramental Leniency
Tuesday, July 31st, 2007
The practice nowadays, where Christenings are concerned, is that most are performed soon after the birth of a child. The timing of this sacrament just doesn’t sit right with me. Many would be only too happy to leave things as they are for the sake of tradition… but tradition dictates otherwise. So…are we too lenient with our [...]

God loves…shouldn’t we??
Tuesday, July 31st, 2007
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again ‘a point central to our faith is that God is ‘Love’, but this leads to a big problem in the way our Church works today. Where love is God is. This view strengthens our view of marriage as a sacred union where God is the love [...]

Thy Kingdom Come
Monday, July 30th, 2007
In an article from Zenit News Pope Benedict is reported as encouraging the faithful to take up their role as builders of a ‘temporal world order’…someone of faith may call it a ‘Kingdom of God’. What our Pontiff was pointing out was a common reluctance of those in political office to allow their faith into [...]
