Seeing is believing?

Monday, October 15th, 2007

If we do not see it, does it still exist? I mean those of us that believe in a heaven believe we will see loved ones that we have lost again once our lives are over, at the same time there are those that find this notion to be crazy.

TRUTH

Monday, September 24th, 2007

I recently listened to a lecture about the media which was given by a spokesperson for the Rossport Five, Dr Mark Garavan. In it, he spoke about about the pressure to translate people’s motives into categories which ‘the media’ can readily understand.

Never on a Sunday?

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Pope Benedict stated yesterday that Sunday should not be surrendered to “the mad rush of the modern world”, adding “Give the soul its Sunday, give Sunday its soul”.
It is an interesting debate and western civilisation has taken it upon itself to make Sunday almost like a normal day anyway. Most shops will be open to […]

Is religion harmful?

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Is Religion harmful? It is an interesting question and something which can spark a lively debate I would imagine?
A Survey by YouGov, in Britain, has found that 42% of the 2,200 people taking part considered religion had a harmful effect. I would argue that there are many things that some could take as simple that […]

Amnesty is granted?

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

I’ve always admired the work that Amnesty International does. It highlights the plight of those that otherwise would be left to suffer terrible atrocities in many different countries.
So it was interesting to read this week of the disagreement that exists between Amnesty and the Catholic church in relation to abortion.

Before Elvis there was nothing - John Lennon

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

It is 30 years since the death of Elvis Presley. The King is loved and worshipped by millions, almost in a same vein as a belief in a religion.

To celebrate or to mourn?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

I had to go to a funeral service today and as I watched the mourning friends and family in the church; subsequently in the graveyard and the reception, a thought struck me. How are we actually meant to act, apart from respectful, during a funeral?

Whose belief is it anyway?

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

I’ve often wondered should we criticise people who do not follow the same religion as we do?  Whether you’re Catholic, Protestant, Jewish etc does it really matter and do we not all pray to the same God anyway?
It is often said the Lord works in mysterious ways and also that we are to ‘love one […]

Paying the penalty

Monday, August 13th, 2007

To kill people who have killed people, whether that’s government-sponsored or otherwise, is feeding a cycle of violence that I think is alarming.
Daniel M. Buechlein, Archbishop of Indianapolis
Since 1982, the state of Texas has executed 398 convicts after the Supreme Court lifted a ban on capital punishment. In this Month alone they five executions scheduled. […]

Sins so deadly

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

“Seven deadly sins, That’s how the world begins.” so sang Bob Dylan, but do we really think about the merits of being forewarned about the ‘evil’ behind these acts that we commit on an almost daily basis.
In today’s society it is difficult to uphold decency and morals. I think we all commit some form of […]
