Something that cannot be covered up
The truth is something which is always hard to find and in short supply in terms of being out in the open.
There have been a lot of cover ups in politics, war and just about every other industry. Things that are hidden that shouldn’t be, things that are covered up for the “good of the people”.
According to Reuters “Accusations of sexual abuse by U.N. peacekeepers and aid workers around the world have increased in recent years and the United Nations is investigating claims against its soldiers in hotspots such as Haiti, Liberia, Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
The report by Save The Children UK, found that “children as young as six” had been abused. It is shocking to think that the ones that are supposed to protect and serve are being accused of doing exactly the opposite. It is frightening to think that people, especially children, are being put in harms way.
If it is true, and as always it is a big if, then a proper investigation must be opened with proper trials and appropriate punishments for those who are found guilty. On too many occasions it can be a case of “the people you know” getting others out of situations they have found themselves in.
For our own belief that cannot happen with our peacekeeping forces.
